Valentine’s Day Cherubs

Using a solvent for a richer, more vibrant effect, the group did a great job with their Valentine’s Day portraits. I wanted to show my classes how they can achieve a painterly effect with colored pencils by dipping the tips into a petroleum jelly mix before applying it to their art paper. It’s safe and a little goes a long way.

The result is a rich, bright color that makes colored pencil artwork POP. I especially like it on the rosy heart and cheeks. Best of all, the Residents loved their finished pieces..

Any thoughts? I'd love to hear from you!
